AdMonsters Conference - FreeWheel's first conference sponsorship
I flew to Florida for the AdMonsters conference shortly after I landed San Francisco from HongKong. Long air travel is no longer big deal for me. Thanks to the preparation at DoubleClick, my last job. I traveled every other week at my last job, to meet my teams at different offices. Travel used to be a big thing for me, I hated to worry about how to get to places, it took me long time to pack, and I didn't pack light...Frequent travel at DoubleClick taught me a lot, I now never pack until the last minute, I pack as light as possible, ready to leave at any time, and never worry about how to get to the next stop until I am done with the current stop. International travel is not any different these days.
Have you read "The World Is Flat" by Thomas Friedman? I love the book, by the way. I read every single book Thomas wrote afterward. He is a great writer, I highly recommend the book if you have not read it yet...I know I am off the topic...Anyway, back to travel, what I want to say is: I feel like the world is indeed becoming flat in front of me. I was in Beijing one day, after I woke up, I would have passed through HongKong, stopped at San Francisco, and found myself resting in a sofa in front of the ocean at Florida, researching for my "speed dating session" at AdMonsters conference, saying hi to all current and ex-clickers walking by at the same time. That felt great.
I had great time at the “speed dating session” and the dinner afterward. I was really excited when I walked up to a brand name publisher, mentioned FreeWheel, he said:”Oh, I actually heard about you and did a little bit research on you guys. So, tell me…tell me…tell me…and, I would like to see a demo…” Do you know how big the deal that was?...Just think about we launched barely 3 weeks ago…AdMonsters sponsors are like Google, DoubleClick, RightMedia, etc. etc. At the dinner table, I sat with those big guys again, YouTube on my left, MSN on my right, DoubleClick was across. Needless to say, I practiced my elevator pitch again, in front of them.
