Invision Partners With FreeWheel On Connecting Online Video And TV Ad Buys

TV ad sales platform Invision has struck a strategic partnership with FreeWheel , the video monetization firm, that will combine their services so clients can plan and manage ad sales across TV and online video. The deal, which the two will announce later this morning, comes as advertisers are becoming increasingly serious about finding ways to bridge their TV and online ad buys, but are frustrated by hurdles that persist. In an interview with paidContent, Invision CEO Lynda Clarizio said that the two companies had an awareness of each other, but realized that they had a lot of the same clients. “So it made a lot of sense for us to get together and combine our services,” she said. “These kinds of partnerships will help reduce the constraints on what’s holding real media convergence back.’”

Specifically, the arrangement joins Invision’s DealMaker ad buying platform with FreeWheel’s MRM online video sales management system.

Aside from having a seamless system to plan and buy ads across TV, the pc and mobile, Jonathan Heller, co-founder and co-CEO added that the promise of the deal is to make it cheaper for media buyers as well. “If someone spends a dollar to bring a TV ad buy to online video, you have to pay a lot of different parties to make that happen,” he said. “For example, let’s say you bought an ad on a Knicks’. To reach a person viewing that basketball game online in Boston, for example, you would have to negotiate with a variety of rights holders, including the cable operator who has a cut, the cable network running it and the team itself in many cases.”

Free Wheel’s sales management software is that it can determine who gets compensated and clear the way for the ad buy. The two both have a number of major media companies signed up—on FreeWheel’s side, it represents Turner Broadcasting, ESPN (NYSE: DIS), Vevo, among others, while Invision has deals with Hallmark Channel, NBC Universal (NYSE: GE), ION, Sony (NYSE: SNE) Pictures Television.
